Manuel Neuer (*27 March 1986) is a German footballer and goalkeeper for Bayern München and the Germany national team. He is often described as a “sweeper-keeper” because of his unique style - he’s known for his quick reflexes, excellent shot-stopping abilities, command of his area, and accurate distribution of the ball. Neuer won the 2014 FIFA World Cup with Germany as well as the Golden Glove award for being the best goalkeeper in the tournament. He was born in Gelsenkirchen, Nordrhein-Westfalen and attended die Gesamtschule Berger Feld, like many other notable players, such as Mesut Özil. He got his first football when he was 2 and had his first game in 1991, shortly before his 5th birthday. His hero and idol as a child was the German Schalke goalkeeper Jens Lehmann.
